Jill Faber joined the Private Prep team as a test prep tutor on Long Island shortly after graduating in January 2017 from Cornell University with a degree in Human Development. Jill is also currently studying School Counseling & Guidance at NYU. We asked her to share why she loves her job!
As a Masters student, she sought to find a job that offers the flexibility needed for graduate-level work, while also allowing her to strengthen her teaching skills; the role of a Private Prep Academic Coach fit the bill perfectly.
“I heard through a family friend that Private Prep really cares about their students, offers a community of well-educated millennials, and provides opportunity to work with a lot of really cool people. The idea of tutoring ‘privately’, but still having a community of like-minded people to collaborate with was super appealing to me.”
Jill particularly loves that she has a dedicated budget for student gifts—paid for on the company dollar. In reflecting upon this policy, she shared that, “it meant SO much to my students when I brought them goodies the lesson before their first ACT. Being able to buy a book you think a student would like or a special pencil, or even something you and the student have talked about, really shows students we care.”
What has made Jill’s work feel most meaningful is the internal culture. In her words: “I have never felt more valued at a company than I do at Private Prep. My coordinating director is so incredibly responsive and helpful, and I know that I can go to her with anything I need; she goes out of her way to make me feel cared for. The effort I put into my work with students is really appreciated and valued, which obviously makes me more inclined to want to continue to work hard. I not only LOVE my job because I love what I do, but also it is nice to know that my work is appreciated by Private Prep.”
