Our students amaze us every day.
We had the distinct honor of working with a kind, hard-working, and resourceful student who has overcome difficult personal challenges, and we are proud to tell her story.
Reeda came to us for test prep help, with unfortunately not a lot of time before the exam. She had prepared on her own beforehand and received a 28, but was hoping to earn a higher score on the ACT to complement her high academic grades and valedictorian status at her high school.
Given the limited amount of time, Reeda’s tutor, Jenna, was especially grateful that Reeda came to every session prepared and enthusiastic. Between their meetings, Reeda completed the homework Jenna had assigned and brought with her specific questions she wanted to address, which ensured that tutoring sessions were productive.
Importantly, Reeda was reflective and willing to try anything. She often identified strengths and weaknesses in her work before meeting with Jenna and was sure to interpret advice as an opportunity to do her very best rather than as criticism.
At one point, following a practice test, Reeda and Jenna recognized that pacing seemed to be a persistent issue. As a strategy, Jenna encouraged Reeda to slow down and focus on aiming to get every question she completed correct, as opposed to completing every question on the exam. Reeda recognized the importance of this strategic change in her test-taking approach and committed to approaching the next exam more patiently.
Excitingly, Reeda earned a 31 on her final ACT and was accepted to Harvard where she will begin as a freshman this fall. We wish Reeda all the best!
